NEW HUDSON TERRAPLANES

ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE Motorists who have followed the trend of modern motor engineering and have noted the remarkable improvements that have taken place in the designing and building of motor ears daring the past few years have realised the perfection to which cars have reached to-day, but Jew in their most sanguine thoughts have anticipated the tremendous advance that the Hudson organisation has revealed m its 3934 models.

In appearance the new cars which Messrs. H. fc>. Motprs, the Gisborne district agents, have just brought, to Gisborne, are revolutionary, but when investigation is made into the performance, the 'power unit, the springing and the internal fittings, it is more fully realised that here is a ear worthy of the ideal of the most; exacting motorist; and one should remember this, that the Terraplaue, as these new Hud-son-built cars are called, are in the reasonable 'price field. They sell at from foil") to £475, main port prices. Strength has been achieved in the double steel body co-ordinated with a box girder X-truss frame of superstrength by means of a sheet of solid steel which is welded to the body and bolted to the frame at US'points to form both the bottom of the body and the top of the frame. This form of construction has permitted the moumu ing of the powerful vibrationless engine on pneumatic and rubber cushions and eliminates many pounds of dead weight required for strength by the oldfashioned methods of construction. This combination of high engine power and excess weight elimination produces the airplane ratio of power to weight, which J:as enabled Temvplanes to capture every important official bill climbing record in America. “A drawingroom oil wheels” aptly describes the Terraplaue. The- upholstery is luxurious. Tiie iiiiisliing is in good taste. The front seat slides on ball bearings and is easily adjusted. The instrument board, with adjustable illumination, shows all that a driver must immediately know about his ear—benzine level, water level in the radiator, instant knowledge of the oil system, and the battery charging is given by red fights which flash on at danger points. The battery charging device is an important feature in assuring the long life of the battery. It prevents overcharging, the battery taking just sufficient current, to keep it at maximum capacity. The luggage compartment is spacious and dust, proof. It has a light which reveals the interior at night and is auto- j matically shut off when the door is closed. The springing is an important new feature. The axleflex assembly | makes independent springing of the front j wheels ilie smoothest and safest ride an automobile has ever given. There is a hill hold feature in the gears which automatically stops the car from running back when it is stopped oil an incline and simplifies the get-away when starting again. The synchro-mesh gears are absolutely noiseless. The specially constructed valves rarely, if ever, require grinding during) the life of the ear. Pistons are of low expansion silicon—aluminium alloy—-glass-hard, with tre- 1 mendously long life. The chrome alloy in the cylinder blocks lias a quality and hardness of such a degree that the cylinder bores are practically nonwearing. A dual oiling system which precludes the chance of defective oiling, I and an ample charging set-, providing for radio installation, arc other features ex these modern cars. i

Air wheels are optional equipment. The carburettor, which is the most modern device for efficient fuel vaporisation, is fitted with an automatic) choke. This completely removes the chance of oil dilution, which in the past lias proved a considerable cause in the faulty lubrication of the cylinders. It is an interesting experience to have one of the cars demonstrated by Messrs. It. S. Motors and those interested should not fail to visit the showrooms in Grey street, where Temiplancs may be seen.*
