SITUATION REVIEWED MEETING OF COMMITTEE ROME, April li. The International Wheat Committee opened its session by seeking an agreement to raise the price by reducing exports or not selling abroad lielow a predetermined price. The discussions were devoted to the progress of implementing the wheat agreement and reporting the crop situation. The American carry-over will probably amount to 100,000,000 bushels. The Australian wheat area probably will be reduced, but Argentina is not restricting cultivation. Canada should he 15 per cent lower. Russia is substituting wheat for rye. Germany has a slightly reduced area. Britain’s increase in area of (i per cent sown would lead to a pro rata reduction of the subsidy.
