WAIROA COLLIE CLUB ANNUAL GATHERING (Herald Correspondent.) The annual trials of the Wairoa County Collie Club were held this week; they had not concluded at 6 p.rn. on Friday. The weather was delightful, and the interest seemed to grow as the trials proceeded. Alany of the spectators, not usually interested in dogs, or m sheep work generally, watched with the keenest interest the clever tactics ol the collies in the heading off process and in bringing the sheep to tile required spot. Mr.'Martin again k.uchv gave the use of his property on the Frasertown roacl and the sheep were found by Air. A. T. Carroll, Huramua. Those responsible for the carrying out of the trials were the patron, Air. G. C. Ormond; president, .Mr. 11. B. Taylor; the vice-presidents, Messrs. F. Harrison, 8. A. Dickie, A. Martin and A. The thanks of the press are due to Air. G. Sinclair, of “Inverleith,” Marumaru, for special assistance. The attendance was good each day, but especially on the second day, when there were 60 cars parked on the terrace. There was a refreshment stall on the ground run for the benefit of the club, in charge of the Misses N. and Al. Taylor, assisted by Alesdaines H. L. Taylor, G. Wilson,' AlcKenzie, Crispin, Martin and Alisses Mcßurnie, E. Wilson, E. Arneil, and B, Arneil. The stall Hid a good business. A feature of the trials was the large number of young competitors, who showed great keenness in their work, and they need not feel discouraged by the fact that they were up against experienced shepherds and dogs, and they may take hope for better success in 1936. The standard of work was high during the trials, the judge stating that the performance of the dogs in the long head
was the best average he had seen for a long time. .Results : Class I.—Head and hold in ring (3b entries); about 800 yards. Possible points: Head, 17; pull, 17; ring, 4; command, 12; total, 50. F.
