On Thursday afternoon there were a fair number at a meeting at the school to decide the final arrangements for the forthcoming school bail, which takes place on May 3. The organising was left in the hands ol Airs. Slieather, and everything promises to be up to the usual standard. A feature will be the performing of Old English folk dances, which proved most interesting last year. The rainfall for March was the lightest lor some years, the total for eight days being ,6bm. In the three previous Years the fall has averaged 3im, while the March with the lightest rainfall since 1924 was in 1930, when only .51in. was registered. In March, 1924, when records were begun, the fall was 14.96 in. This lias rarely been equalled by any one mouth since. BASKETBALL CLUB
The first, annual meeting of the Toluga Bay Basketball Olub was held at the residence of Miss Roberts on Tuesday night, when there was a good muster of representatives from each ol the dubs. Mr. Kelly was elected to the chair, lie said that although there had only been a part season of play last year, the results had been well worth while and was a great incentive to go on with tho game. It was necessary that every player and interested person should do everything possible to further the interests of the game. The secretary, Miss W. J. Roberts, read the report, in which she stated, inter alia: “The club was formed fate iu the season, but proved very successful and enjoyable for the short period of play. The enthusiasm shown is very encouraging, and we hope such a spirit will continue for tho coming season. Five teams were formed in the district, these being Toiaga two teams, High School, Ilauiti and Mangatuna, one each. “Competition matches were played every Thursday, the winning team receiving the basketball presented by Mrs. Larsen. The Mangatuna. team was successful in winning all their matches and thus annexing the trophy. Visits were j paid by Athletic, two teams, Tokomaru, Bay and Poverty Bay representatives, two teams. . “Two local teams paid a visit to Gisborne during -September at the invitation of Athletic Club in a return, for their match lierq. The executive desires to thank all who assisted in _ entertaining ■ the visitors. We also desire to thank Mr. Kemp and the Hauiti dub for tho use of courts and equipment, Mrs. Larsen for her generous donation, and all others who helped the club in its infancy. Mr. Kelly moved a hearty vote of thanks to Miss Roberts lor her woi k during the season and congratulated her! on the credit balance of 15s 9d. 1 The election of officers resulted: j Patron, Mrs. Larsen; president, Mrs.Thornton; vice-presidents, Mesdames Shea thcr, M. EASTER PICNIC. , j On Easter Monday the Toiaga Bay Presbyterian Sunday School and Bible classes travelled to Takapau, where they joined with the Takapau units sind combined in having a jolly picnic in Mr. .lames' paddock. This was the first treat that the young people have had since the establishment of Ihe ,
local church and the organisers, Miss W. J. Roberts, Mrs Rennie and Mr. .Tames, are to be congratulated on their excellent arrangements. The events were all well competed for and a sumptuous afternoon tea was served by the ladies and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
