DANGER OF PANIC
EMPIRE MIGRATION DISCUSSION IN COMMONS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Feb. 28. In the House of Commons, Air. T. Levy moved a motion welcoming a departmental committee on migration and urging the early issue of a report. Commissions should be appointed to inquire on the spot into the possibilities of the Dominions and Colonies, consisting not of politicians, but also of farmers, surveyors, and financiers, and to study the task of developing the rich, empty, lands of the Empire, which was imperative as a safeguard for its future. Air. A. AI. Lyons, seconding the motion, said the proportion of British stock in Canada was shrinking, while many jealous eyes were on northern Australia. One of the causes of the lack of migration was the lack of social services in the Dominions.
Air. W. Lunn said the danger of so many debates on the subject, was the creation of a false impression in the Dominions that the House of Commons was in a panic to shovel people on to the Dominions. The motion was carried without division. .
