OUTLOOK IMPROVES
AUSTRALIAN PASTORALISTS ‘MANY WILL SHOW PROFIT’ The improved outlook in Australia was commented upon by Mr. T. Barr Smith, chairman of directors, at the half-yearly meeting of Elder Smith and Company, Limited, an Adelaide concern with pastoral interests. Mr. Smith said that progress was being made toward balancing budgets and the incomes of a large portion ol the community had improved. The wool market was firm, with a good demand. Pastoralists were in a better position, and many of them would this year show a profit on their operations. Economy was still necessary, although it was now possible for pastoralists to direct attention to improvements, Mr. Smith said. It was necessary that considerable sums should be put in reserve. Much of the present taxation had been levied as an emergency measure, and it would seem to Ire the duty of Federal and State Governments to remove extra burdens as soon as possible. The company has increased the rate of dividend by J, per cent, to 4A per cent.
