ATOMS

PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORD \ MELBOURNE, Feb. 10. Foj the first time in the Southern Hemisphere atoms have been recorded photographically. This feat has been accomplished by two research workers, Dr. L. H. Martin and Mr J. C. Bower, of the department of natural philosophy in the University of Melbourne. The intricate apparatus used was jnado in the workshops of the department by Mr. H. Waters. Only at the Cavendish laboratory in the Univereity of Cambridge and at three other centres in the United States and Germany has similar work been accomplished. , The photographs obtained by Dr. Martin and Mr. Bowfcr were produced during a research into the recovery of atoms after they had been bombarded by X-rays.
