This assumption is based on statistics prepared by the’ New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association, from whom the secretary of the Poverty Bay Woolbrokers’ Association, Mr. W. Hamilton Irvine, has received the following return of average prices and wool offered and sold at sales during the first two months 6i the season, commencing with Auck- • land on November 27 and including the Invercargill sale on January 31: — Total bales offered 318,265 Total bales sold 313,095 Net weight sold 109,131,6881 b. Gross proceeds £5,546,784 Average price per bale £l7 14s 3.83 d Average price per lb. 12.198 d The figures show that of the wool offered during the period, over 98 per cent, was sold. The gross proceeds for the 12 sales totalled £5,546,784, comEired with £4,204,430 for the whole of st season. The average price per bale, £l7 14s 3.83 d, compares with last season’s average of £7 10s 6d, an increase of £lO 3s 9d per bale. The average price per lb., 12.198 d, for the 12 sales, compares with last season’s average of 5.18 d, ai t increase of 7.018 d. The gross realisations of the wool sold in the Dominion at the roster wool sales for the whole of the previous five seasons compare as follow with those for the first 12 sales of this season:
