PIGEON FLYING

POVERTY BAY SOCIETY RACE FROM MOIIAKA A further race from Mohaka was conducted by the Poverty Bay Homing Pigeon Society on Saturday, under good weather conditions. The birds were liberated at 6 a.m., and the first bird was clocked in at about 7.30 a.m. E. Stephenson’s black chequer cock “Try Again” filled first place, with E. Jackson’s “Black Ace” and “All Alone” not far behind. The remaining birds were separated by seconds only. Detailed results were as follow :—E. Stephenson’s “Try Again,” 1013.04yds per min., 1; E. Jackson’s “Black Ace” and “All Alone,” 1004.31, 2j L. Jackson’s “192,” 1004.28, 4; J. McLean’s “2141,” 1000.92, 5; J. Forster’s “Loofy,” 993.12, 6; Sharp’s “Lilac,” 991.5, 7; IT Hall’s “Sunny Blonde,” 978.28, 8; Bolger’s “Never Sweat,” 971.8, 9; G. Hall’s “Dusky,” 963, 10; Percy’s “Red 'Star,” 929.1, 11; Minton’s “Ajax,” 877, 12. Saturday’s winner lias been close in many races, and members anticipate that more will be heard of Mr. Stephenson’s flock in the near future, his winning bird being of a very fine type indeed. A further race is to be held from Napier next Saturday, when another close finish is anticipated.
