THE WEATHER

v To-day’s North Island Eeport Blue skies were reported north of Gisborne this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed further south in the North Island. Light north-westerly breezes were general. The barometer had fallen rapidly since yesterday. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland, Tauranga, and Opotiki 67 degrees, Gisborne 66, Napier 65, and Wellington 62. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Last Night’s Forecast / Anticyclones are now situated respectively east of New Zealand and over eastern Australia, while a depression is approaching the Dominion from the Tasman Sea. The latter, however, is losing its intensity owing to the development of a cyclone near the Kermadec Islands. Winds.—Moderate to strong portlieasterly to northerly, changing soon to southerly in the far north and south, and southerlies becoming general within the next 24 to 36 hours- Seas rough about Cpok and Foveaux Straits and north of East Cape; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Spa.—Moderate northerly winds at first, blit backing to southerlies .shortly, and wind and sea then increasing.
