DEATH IN LONDON
TALENTED AUCKLAND GIRL A talented Auckland girl, Miss Vivienne (Biddy) Philcox, who had a notable career on the Auckland amateur stage, and was continuing the study of dramatic art in England, died in London on Thursday at the age of about 25, private cabled advice to this effect being received in Auckland. She was a daughter of the late Mr. H. B. Philcox, Takutui street, Parnell, and Mrs. Philcox, who is at present in London. Born in Auckland, she was educated at Woodford House, Hawke’s Bay. On her return to Auckland she took a keen interest in the amateur stage. Miss Philcox achieved her greatest acting triumph in the title role of the Little Theatre Society’s production “Peter Pan” in December, 1930. At the beginning of 1931 Miss Philcox went to London, where she had since studied acting, singing, and dancing. She showed considerable talent, and is understood to have obtained an engagement to .. appear in a O. B. Cochran production about six months ago. Miss Philcox was injured in a motor accident, but made a good recovery, Tire cablegram did not contain any details as to the cause of death. It is believed, however, that she suffered a nervous breakdown recently.
