THE WEATHER
To-day’s North Island Report Bine skies wore reported at Auckland this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere, in the North Island. Light to moderate variable breezes were general. The barornter had fallen during the week-end. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 63 degrees, Tauranga ami East Cape 65. Opotiki 67. Gisborne 62. Napier 66, and Wellington 6>3. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s forecast An intense anticyclone is now moving off New Zealand aiid a depression is approaching from the westward. Winds : Moderate to strong northerly to northwesterly winds reaching gale force at places in ajid south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits; rising south of Cape Egmont; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong to northwest winds of gale force in the southern portion ; seas rough. Weather : Fair to fine in eastern districts; elsewhere becoming cloudy and unsettled, with rain in western districts from Taranaki southwards and in the far south ; temperatures warm, especially in eastern provinces. Midday Forecast. General inference.—The anticyclone controlling the weather of the past few days is moving eastward off the Dominion , and a depression is approaching from the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Moderate to fresh easterly winds. Weath er.fair to cloudy, and warm. Seas, a moderate swell.
