DROUGHT ENDED
RAIN IN QUEENSLAND WHOLE STATE DRENCHED BRISBANE, Feb. 12. The recent moonsoonal rains have wiped drought off the Queensland map. There were some very dry spots out Winton, Julia Creek and Nelia way, where owners of stock were starting out to travel for grass or to seek agistment country, but they may now stay on their holdings securely fixed for some months, and perhaps until after the winter.
The rains fell in other places in the West, causing a good deal of flooding; hut that is a small matter compared with the assurance of grass and water even until the October thunder-storm period.
The whole of the State practically has been well drenched, including the Far North coastal areas, which registered the usual “few feet” of rain. Floods in the north held up railway traffic for some days, but the eastern atfc&nis"afe short, and when rain stops they soon run down. To be sure there have been some losses through the coastal floods, but that is normal at this time of year.
In the west they have had some torrid clays, with registrations up to llOdeg. and even over; but Brisbane and other coastal places have generally had quite ’pleasant days and nights, though on two occasions Brisbane. had it up to 92' a*d 93deg. respectively. Act residents still have been pitying the poor southerners with their heat waves.
