A GRADE SURPRISE

WIN FOR PALMERSTON N.

(Per PwM Association.) ' V', WELLINGTON, this day. Bandsmen and a large gathering of the public 'at the Town Hall last night, waiting to hear the result of the A grade test selections, the second of which had just been played, received a deciaed surprise when Palmerston North Garrison was announced as the winner. “There have always been big surprises at every contest I have attended, said the judge, Captain G. Buckley, immediately before giving the pjaeings, “but I can tell you that my adjudicating has not -been guided by anything but my own mind. I hope ydu will understand this if you do. get - a shock to-night, as I suppose you will. However, I can assure you that the band I placed first to-night won its . position fairly and squarely." The placings were as follow: —
