TOKOMARU GUN CLUB

TWO DAYS' FIXTURE 810 MATCH TO GISBORNITE (Herald < 'orrespomlent.) Despite the worst of weather for marksmanship, the two-day fixture held by the TokomaTu Bay Gun Club at Tatapouri proved a real success, the attendance including a large number ol interested spectators, as well as several guns from outside the district, these including Messrs W. Semmens, Taneatua, F. Young. Opotiki, J. Donnelly and F. Keene, Auckland, and 11. Howlett, Hastings; while .the cream of the district’s sporting guns 'were also present to give the visitors keen competition. The big prize of £SO, shot for in a 25-bird handicap match, was won by the Gisborne representative, K. Cameron, who broke 23 birds off a handicap of 15 yards. The visitors figured in the stake money in the majority of the matches, and several fine performances were registered in the course of the fixture. Results of matches were us under:—• Five-bird Handicap (19 entries). —.T. Donnelly, S. G. Glennie, T. Young, H. Howlctt, G. A. Papworth, 0. Solvander, F. Smyth, E. C. Wilkins and G. Glennie shot the possible and divided the stakes. £SO Handicap, 25 clay birds (17 entries). —K. Cameron (Gisborne), 15 yds., broke 23 birds and took first money. H. Newton, 10yds (Tokomaru. Bay), G. A. Papworth (Ngat'apa), 17 yds., and W. Semmens (Taneatua), 19 yds., each broke 22 birds and divided second and third money. Other scores were: J. Donnelly, 19yds., 21; S. G. Glennie, 18yds., 21; E. Ten-bird Handicap (10 entries).—J. Donnelly, 19yds, shot the possible and took first money. H. F. Smyth, 17yds, T. Wilson, 12yds, and H. Howlett. 21yds, each - broke nine birds and divided secqnd and third money. At one stage W. Oates had a run of 50 breaks without a miss. Other good runs were H. Howlett 38, J. Donnelly 36, and G. Glennie 34. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Donnelly, on behalf of the visitors, took occasion to compliment the Tokomaru Bay Gun Club on the organisation of its fixture, and the enterprise shown in every way. It had been a great pleasure to be present and to compete against the good sportsmen of this district, added Mr. Donnelly. The expressions of the visitors were acknowledged by Mr. W. Oates, president of the Tokomaru Bay club, who also thanked the visitors and district marksmen for their support throughout the fixture. The bad weather had threatened a serious loss to the club, but the support accorded bv enthusiasts had greatly reduced the financial risk of the meeting. Mr. Oates mentioned that as a result of the recent gale repairs had had to he undertaken in connection with the trap house and pavilion, and the club owed a debt of gratitude to Mr. Tom Wilson for undertaking to get this work done, and also for hia good ■ offices as referee at the meeting.
