CLOTHING ABLAZE
BOY’S FRIGHTFUL ORDEAL
SYDNEY, Dec. 28. Ablaze from head to foot when Ins clothing caught alight while he was playing near his home in Arthur street, Forest Lodge, to-day, William Turner, 7, was severely burnt before a workman came to his assistance. He is now in the Children’s Hospital, Camperdown in a critical condition. The boy, who had a sack wrapped around him, was playing near a lire, when a portion of the sack caught on fire and in a few minutes was blazing fiercely. . A workman, who was passing at tbe time, heard the boy’s screams and rushed to his aid. He quickly whipped off his coat and wrapped it around the boy’s body. He then rolled the victim on the ground and the flames were extinguished. Almost all the skin from the boy s Cody had been burnt off, but he did not lose consciousness. While Central District Ambulance officers were treating him he was in terrible agony, but lie displayed remarkable courage and simply asked the officers not to hurt him. He was then taken to hospital. While the boy was being treated, his rescuer called for his coat, and, after inquiring about the boy’s condition, slipped quietly away.
