RETAINED BY TARANAKI GREAT SCORING MATCH POVERTY BAY 422 FOR NINE (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. Taranaki retained the Hawke Cup as a, result of its challenge by Poverty Ray. The mutch produced prolific scoring on a batsman’s wicket. The total of runs scored in the three days was 1273. Poverty Bay made 224. to' which Taranaki replied' with 496- Poverty Bay, in their second innings, made 423 for nine, and when stumps were drawn, Taranaki bad reached 131 for three wickets. Taranaki thus won on the first innings.
