FAKED “FATS”
CATTLE SHOW SENSATION
* LONDON, Dec. IS. The council of the Smithfield Fat Stock Show has cancelled the awards to the Galloway steers Goldflake, winner of the championship, and Mike V, winner of the silver cup for the best steer under two years, on the grounds of “malpractices.” When the show opened, Goldflake apparently was in good condition, but later lost his shapeliness. _ A veterinary examination of the carcase showed that an instrument for injecting “extraneous substance’ bad been inserted several inches into the bodies. The practice of injecting oil of turpentine to improve a beast’s appearance is known to exist, particularly abroad, but it lias never previously been discovered at Smithfield.
