GOVERNMENT GRANT

£6OOO FOR HOSPITAL BOARD

A special grant of £(>000 has been made to the Taranaki Hospital Board, according to information received in New Plymouth. The sum is included in the supple mentary estimates of the Health Department, and the grant is in lieu of a subsidy on the gift by Mrs George Tabor towards a new children’s ward, which was to have been granted by the Health Department, but which was not granted owing to legislation abolishing subsidies by the Health Department having come into force. Representations to Dr. 11. M. Watt, DirectorGeneral of Health, resulted in the grant just made. Mr P. E. Stanton, chairman of the Hospital Board, said that the grant had been anticipated by the board, and the building of the children’s ward had been proceeded with. The position, therefore, would be unchanged.
