THE WEATHER
To-day’s North Island Report. Blue skies were reported this morning at Auckland, Opotiki and hast Cape, but overcast and unsettled conditions were reported elsewhere in the North Island. Strong southerly winds were general. The barometer remained fairly steady at a low level. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 57 degrees, Tauranga and Gisborne 54. o|K»tiki and Hast Cape 55, Napier 50, and Wellington 53. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell, Cape PaHiser, East Cape, Tauranga. and Tiritiri: elsewhere moderate or smooth. , Last Night’s Forecast. An intense depression still covers New Zealand, but- its trough is now off the east coast. An anticyclone is advancing slowly over the Tasman, while a cyclone is apparently located off the north Queensland coast. Winds: Strong southwesterly to southerly, still reaching gale force in places, but gradually moderating. Seas: Rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong hut decreasing southerly winds; seas rough. Weather: Cold, changeable and squally generally, with scattered showers; some heavy rain probable to-night on the east coast of the North Island; conditions gradually improving. Midday Forecast. General inference.—Since last night the depression located east of the Dominion has deepeeed still further, while at the same time the front of an anticyclone has moved on to Otago. Forecast. —Strong southerly winds to gales. Weather cold and boisterous, with heavy showers, and in places hail. Seas heavy.
