WHAKAANGIANGI NEWS
SCHOOL BREAK-OP The annual break-up of the Whelmangiangi School took piece in the presence of a large gathering of children and their parents, as well as a number ot visitors. After a lengthy programme of sports events, including boys and girls’ races, pole jumping, and high jumping, the gathering assembled in the schoolhouso for the distribution of school and sports prizes. Tho chairman, Mr. G. W. Cowan, paid a tribute to the work done by the teachers and highly complimented Miss Catanacli on her splendid efforts during the last two years and on her display of work done by the children during the yea r. On behalf of the committee nnd parents the chairman thanked the headmaster, Mr. J. Martin, for the progress made by the children during his short stay at tho school, and mentioned that marked progress had been made during the last term in all branches of school work. Mr. Martin’s work in the various sports—football, cricket, and tenuis—and the general tone of the school were warmly commended. The chairman also praised the work done by the head monitor, May Hughes, and thanked her for her assistance in the playground. Children taking correspondence courses and their parents received a hearty wel come, as also did other visitors. On behalf of the committee, the chairman presented the teachers with a Christmas box and wished them an enjoyable holiday, a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. After the prizes bad been given out. Mr. Martin thanked the gathering and committee for their good wishes and for their appreciation of the teachers work.
