“SCANDAL IN DIOCESE”
LIVERPOOL DISPUTE LORD CECIL’S CHARGES (Received Dec. 29, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 28. Lord Hugh Cecil's charge concerning the use of Liverpool Cathedral is connected with Dr. L. P. Jacks, formerly of Manchester College, Oxford, whom the Dean of Liverpool asked to ■preach three non-liturgical services with the bishop's approval. Lord Hugh Cecil states that tho chapters of rural deaneries of Bootle, Ormskirk, and Northmeols passed a resolution of protest showing that a ‘‘scandal .was caused in the diocese of ■Liverpool." Replying to Lord Hugh Cecil, the bishop explained that the principle on which he acted was based on Christ's (words: ‘‘He that is not with us is against us." ‘‘We are not to exclude a man from fellowship and co-operation becauso he has not attained tho full truth. Evil temper and exclusiveness are destined to work much mischief in the church," he said;
