ing. i High weight Handicap.—l-1 Korero, 1, 3-3 Miss Rushabye, 2; 6-7 Flower, 3 Ali started. Won by a neck, and threequarters of a length. Time, 2.11 4-5.
AUCKLAND TROTS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. There is line weather for the second day of the Auckland trots, and a fait attendance. The track is in good order considering tho recent rains. Oak Handicap.—4-4 Indolent, 1; Oolden Eagle, 2; 6-5 Autumn Lu, 3. Ail started. Won by li lengths each way. Times, 3.39, 3.38 3-5, 3.40 21-5. Indianapolis, who was a warm favorite for the Auckland Trotting Cup from the time of his nomination, justified the confidence placed in him by winning cuinfoVtubly. Unlort unatcly. the closing stages of the race were to a large extent marred through the second favorite, Pcgtuvay, who led lor a mile and three-quarters, receiving a check. lie lost a good deal of ground, but finished with great deter mination iato third place, leaving the impression that he would have sere ously troubled the favorite, who, .it certain parts of tho track, was not ' pacing perfectly. The incident croatcc considerable discussion. W. HI one i kinson, driver of the winner, said that although Indianapolis was not hand 'ling the turns at all satisfactorily, hi 1 did not feel uneasy about the final re- ; S ult. He considered that when ho sent i Indianapolis along at Die quarter-mile j post, he had Pegaway’s measure, and did not anticipate danger from any [other source. While admitting that * Indianapolis was speedy, Tomkinson said there was a wrong impression abroad that he was only a sprinter, whereas staying was really his forte. This idea was probably prevalent be cause the horso had not previously won at two miles, but had been singularly successful in shorter races. As a three-year-old Indianapolis took a placed two miles record of 4.23, satisfactory proof his his staying qualities. He could not gather up speed ' smartly enough to be classed as a sprinter, but once under jvay there were not many horses who could g ( faster.
