When, after two years, the kidnappers of Airs Nell Donnelly, a loeal garment manufacturer, and the city’s richest woman, had been sentenced to life imprisonment, she announced that she would marry her lawyer, Mr .Tames Reed. Airs Donnelly is 42 and Air Reed is the outspoken 72-year-old United States senator from Alissouri, who sponsored new legislation against kidnappers, and made the Donnelly case nations Hy fa mous. “If a hair of her .head is harmed, I shall follow her kidnappers until my dying day,” Air Reed stated at the time.

Airs Donnelly was released after 34 hours’ captivity, without paying any part of the 73,000 dollars (£13,000) ransom demanded.
