FAT LAMBS OFF GORSE
KELSON FARMERS’ RESULTS ONE-THIRD OF FLOCK SOLD Considerable interest, says the Nelson Mail, has been evinced recently in different parts of the Dominion regarding the remarks made by Dr. D. L. Freeman, Nelson, relative to the value of gorse pasturage. It may be. recalled that Dr. Freeman, during an inspection of pastures recently, declared that gorse, if property tended, would yield an appreciable volume of revenue annually and indefinitely; that on certain areas the revenue which would accrue front the judiciously-managed sheep flock on gorso pastures as compared with that from poor native pasturage might ho doublo or perhaps treble. Having regard to this it will interest many pastoralists whose, sheep graze the poorest native pastures which are insufficiently responsive to dressings of fertiliser that a Nelson farmer, wjm owns a small flock of sheep, reports that ho hits just sold a draft, of fat. lambs from the owes off gorse. The draft, which constituted approximately one-third of llio total laritii flock, were of the Kltrop-sliire-Roniney type.
