WELLINGTON, this day. t The supplementary estimates ‘introduced in the House yesterday show e total additional'votes of £295,502, of n which £205,500 is applied to dopart- ■- mental services and £20,052 for public works, the latter being half for tclcg graph extension and the remainder for '- the .sett lement .of unemployed workers, e The defence vot’e shows the largest a increase, the total being- £54,142, including £19,250 for military aviation - for Ihe construction of workshops and e an aei'odrome and £SOOO additional for - civil aviation landing grounds. The vote.of the Department of Agrisi culture includes the following items: ’ Guarantee and bonus on the export..of t fruit, additional £0000; carriage of . lime for farmers, additional £5000; and subsidy to manufacturers of > superphosphate, additional £20,(100. t A vote of £OOOO is provided for the . purchase and working of B class , broadcasting stations, but. part, of this is recoverable. A compassionate allowance of £74S is made to the widow of the late Judge Rawson, Native Trustee. Provision is made for the payment of £IOO to the Leader of the Opposition ire addition to the cost of cleri--1 cal assistance during the session. , NATIVE LAND DEVELOPMENT The Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. A. I). Park, receives an increase in salary of £2OO per annum. The cost of paying members of the Tariff Commission is set down at £ISOO, including an additional allowance of £270 to Dr. Craig as chairman. An additional £I4OO is voted in respect to the expenses of the Now Zealand delegation to the World Economic Conference, making the total £6400. Sir Thomas Wilford is granted £SOO to cover the cost of his return to New Zealand, and the new High Commissioner, Sir , James Parr, is granted a similar amount to cover tho cost of proceeding to England. A compassionate grant' of £6OO is made to the widow of the late Leader of 'the Opposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, and £250 is provided for the expenses of Mr. Holland’s funeral. The amount of £SOO is provided for the expenses of by-elections. The Native Rates Committee is responsible for a vote of £3OO. A vote of £3OOO appears on the estimates for additions to Parliament Buildings. The payment of rentals of properties leased from ownefs under the small"farm's pltui accounts for" a vote of £SOOO. For services in excess of the vote the native land development account paid out £41,170. EXCHANGE OF SILVER Expenses incurred in connection with the exchange of Australian silver coin for English mintage were £1772. It cost £2*B2 for the visit of the Hon. W. Downio Stewart and the Secretary of the Treasury to London last year. The electric supply account paid £27,500 Vs half the cost of compensu- j tion, shared with the Auckland Electric Power Board, consequent upon the < termination of the board’s contract i with Glen Afton Collieries Limited for tho supply of coal when the Arapuni scheme resumed working. An item ot £438 is included as pay- < ment to the International Relief * Union, ail institution which assists members of countries affected by * disaster .such as aa- earthquake, a J cyclone, etc. A grant.of £l5O is made to the Public Service Commissioner, Mr. P. * Verschaffclt, to cover the cost of his j visit to Samoa. j The Director of the Horticulture Division of the Department of Agri- ( culture is voted £475 towards the ex- J penses of his visit to the United j States. _ , Items of expenditure for which there was no authority in last year’s estimates are set out in the unauthorised expenditure account, which totals £159,558. ,
