CRICKET MANAGEMENT

P.B. ASSOCIATION SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP PROPOSALS CON SIDERED A considerable amount of discussion took place at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, held last evening, concerning the method to he adopted of controlling the senior championship competition. The meeting was presided over by Mr. IL. H. Maude, and there were present also Messrs. V. C. R. Mitford, J. J. Macdonald, A. R. Baker, P, 0. Dwyer, L. 11. Thomson, A. C Woodfield, A. Bignall, R.. Connop, and J. M. Kay, lion, secretary. During the discussion regarding the senior competition it was pointed out that, provided that no more days were lost through unfavorable weather, the first round of the competition would not concluded until February 10, which would mean that there would only he seven Saturdays available thereafter lor tho completion of the competition. Members agreed that it would be impossible to conduct a full round of two-day matches iu that time. Various proposals were put forward, and finally Mr. Woodlield gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting that the second round should comprise oneday matches, all points scored in these games to count towards the championship. Notification of receipt of Poverty Bay’s challenge l'or the Hawke Cup was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council, which stated that challenges had also come to hand from South Canterbury and North Otago. No definite [programme of challenge matches would jbe drawn up until the result of the [match between Nelson and Marlborougn : was known, but Poverty Bay would bo ■advised of the dates allotted for its i challenge as early as possible. Since [ this letter was written the match refer!red to was won by Nelson, and it was remarked at. tho meeting that, early advice should bo received regarding the challenge dates. It was resolved that the matches postponed last week should be played on the coming Saturday, and the draw for the wickets resulted as follows: Senior championship, third series, December 9 and 23.—Civil Service v. City, No. 1 wicket; Marist v. Turanganui, No. 2; High School v. Old Boys, No. 3; Gisborne Club a bye. Second grade.—Unemployed v. Marist, No. 4 wicket; High School A v. High School B, at the school. Third grade.—High School A v. Marist, and High School B v. High School O, both matches at the school. Messrs. .1. J, Macdonald and D. J. Duncan were appointed a postponement committee for Thursday cricket. Tt was resolved to communicate with the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association inquiring whether it was intended to send a Hawke’s Bay junior team to Gisborne this season. The appointment of Mr R. Connop as representative of the junior clubs on the management committee was confirmed.
