PERSONNEL CHOSEN
KING-SFORD SMITH’S PLANS Preparations for Sir Charles IvingsfoVd Smith’s trans-Tasman flight are proceeding satisfactorily, and the majority of the personnel have now been chosen. Sir Charles’ staff will he : Sqnadronl.eader T. \V. While, pilot, of tin; Godock; -Mr. Wilfrid Kingston! Smith, manager: Mr. .). T. I’ethyhridge, chief engineer: Mr. 11. Purvis, assistant engineer; Mr. IT. Allleek', aircraftsman. All these were, with him on his last visit. Three other assistants will ho chosen in New Zealand. Mr. J. H. W. Stanuage will again be the radio operator on the Tasman trip, after which lie will return to Australia l(> resume the management of Sir Charles’ aviation business at Mascot Aerodrome. He will later come back to New Zealand to do the radio work on the return flight to Australia. During the journey to New Zealand, the two machines will keep in constant communication by a, radio telephone which Mr. Stanuage is at present devising. Commander Bennett, late of the lloyal Australian Navy, will probably he Ihe navigator and radio operator on the, Codock. the name of which lias not yet been decided upon.
