Ryegrass Benefits
COME of the late ryegrass seed crops in the Gisborne district will benefit from last week’s rain.
Paddocks shut up early in the season arc now so well forward that all that the rain will do is to increase the growth of clovers. These paddocks promise fair yields. In those pastures where the seeding process is not far forward yet, the rain should stimulate the growth sufficiently to produce heavier crops, and perhaps ripening might be retarded somewhat.
Similarly, farmers who have shut up their paddocks late for hay and ensilage should benefit considerably as a (result of the rain, prior to which generally lighter crops were anticipated.
