FLOODS IN VICTORIA
WORST IN 24 YEARS TWO DEATHS REPORTED TERRIFC STORM ABATES (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Dec. 4, noon.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 4. The terrific storm which raged in Victoria for several days abated dining the week-end. The Avoca River at Charlton overflowed ils banks, causing the worst flood since 1909. The main street is 3ft. 'under water, shops being inundated, and many homes in surrounding districts were flooded, the occupants being forced to leave. Two fatalities are reported. Mabel Yean, 15, was drowned at Gippsland when a bridge on which she was standing was swept away. Frank Durbridge, 12, was drowned in an attempt, to rescue another boy. Large areas of wheat and tobaccogrowing country were laid waste. DAMAGE IN QUEENSLAND TR A INS l N TER R LJPTE D (Received December 4, noon.) BRISBANK, Dec. 4. The Wavrego River at Charleville is in high flood. Many residences are flooded, and trains are interrupted. Four other rivers are in flood.
