OVERDUE MOTORISTS The neglect of a party of motorists tp notify their friends in Gisborne of a sudden change in plans was responsible for considerable anxiety to-day, and resulted in the police of three different districts being called upon to make inquiries in view of the possibility oi a serious accident having occurred. At 6 o’clock last evening, the motorists telephoned to Gisborne from Opotiki stating that they were leaving right away for Gisborne, with the result that their expectant host waited up all night to receive them. When they had not Arrived at 2 o’clock this afternoon he became anxious, and the police having been communicated with, telephonic inquiries were made over the alternative routes by which they might have travelled, and the matter was reported to the police at Opotiki and Motu. When the travellers arrived at about 2.30 p.m. they explained that having experienced tyre trouble last evening they returned to Opotiki and decided to remain the night, not realising the anxiety which their non-arrival at Gisborne would cause.

incidentally, the party had engagements in Gisborne yesterday, but on leaving Rotorua on Saturday took the road tp”Waikaremoana by mistake, and bad proceeded nearly as far as Frasertown before they were held up by a slip and compelled to return to Rotorua, thus losing a day in their travelling time.
