TO-NIGHT’S SPORTS
NAVAL TEAMS COMPETING
Teams from IT.M.S. Diomede will bo competing in the Gisborne Amateur Athleticand'Harrier Club’s flood-light sports meeting on the Obildfers road reserve to night. For a time this morning there was some uncertainty about the weather, but a marked improvement was noticed in the sky as the day progressed, and the .committee decided to proceed with the arrangements, provided conditions did not become worse by evening. To-night’s meeting will be the second Hie club has held under artificial light Improvements have been made to the system of lighting since the first occasion nearly a fortnight ago. when the four flood-lights installed gave very satisfactory results. It was announced thou that additions were contemplated, and these would he effected by the. time of the next meeting. The last meeting of the club was held during the visit of 11. M.5. Laburnum, hut it was not possible then to secure the participation of any naval represent.-, lives. For to-night, however, it is hoped to have a tug-o’-war team from the cruiser to compete against local teams, including one from ihe Fire Brigade. A relay team from the Diomede lias been promised, and these events should be among the most interesting on the programme.
