EXPORT OF FRUIT

AUSTRALIAN CONFERENCE

CO-OPERATION WITH N %

SYDNEY, Nov. 17.

At the conference of the Apple and Pear Export Council to-day, the special committee dealing with the limitation of exports recommended the conference to restrict the export of apples to about 42 varieties, eliminating the plain types; that the sizes should be restricted to 2£ to 2|in for dessert, 2£ to 3in. for culinary, and 2£ to 3in. for dual purpose apples; and that a cablegram be sent to the New Zeland Control Board inviting co-operation in the restriction and petitioning the British Government to secure a reduction in foreign imports. The conference adopted Hiese recommendations in principle, and the details may be altered later, if necessary. A similar message is being sent to the Prime Minister of Australia.

The conference also decided to cooperate with New Zealand in adopting what is known as standard or Californian pear cases for the 1935 season. A committed was appointed to negotiate for shipping facilities for the coming season.
