I vlliirald Correspondent.) The Waipiro Bay Tennis Club belli the official opening of its tennis courts tor the season last Thursday afternoon. The weather, fortunately, turned out quite fair, but was cloudy at periods, and a few drops of rain which fell did not hamper the progress of games to any extent. Five out of the six. courts were used and were acclaimed to be in line condition, and with the advent of tine weathei should be in splendid order for the tournament at Mow Year. Tuia, and mingled on the fresh green of the Waipiro Recreation Ground with its picturesque surroundings, presented one of the gayest scenes Waipiro has seen for many'months. An extremely tasty afternoon tea, served by the lady members of die local club, was partaken of in Git pavilion, and games were continued till late in the afternoon. A dance in the Waipiro Hall in tin-, evening concluded a very enjoyable day. Most of the afternoon players and visitors remained, and tennis frocks and flannels were worn by the majority of dancers. The hull was effectively decorated will) streamers in the colors of the tennis club, and greenery adorning the walls was shown to advantage. Music was provided by Miss Conole’s orchestra, and extras by Miss It. Wlinrehinga and Miss M. The Tuparoa team visited Waipiro Bay last week-end to compete in the Sheen Shield competition, but for the Kocond time this season the match had to bo abandoned on account of rain. Waipiro won the toss, ami their captain, M. Gilmore, elected to bat, and Nurse and Cottle opened.
