MARAMA DELAYED
SEARCH FOR SILVER MUCH ADO FOR NOTHING (Par Prenn Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An unsuccessful search for silver coin by customs officials delayed the- departure of the Marama for Sydney yesterday afternoon for 40 minutes. The. contents of a metal cylinder shipped in the cargo apparently aroused suspicion amoug the authorities a few minut.es before the ship was due to sail, and waterside workers who had just ''■left, the ship were ordered hack. The coverings were taken off No. 3 hatch, the derricks -unslung, the ship’s rails removed, a space on the wharf barricaded off,' and the cargo netting partially lowered. All appeared in readiness to . unload the suspicious cylinder. The 'operations then ceased as abruptly as they commenced, the hatch once more was • ip.ade; fast, and shortly after the Marama. left the wharf. The' customs authorities stated that no silver ivaa found. Whether the i cylinder was examined in the ship’s hold and found, to cOntain nothing, or whether it was 100 deeply buried bv other cargo was not stated. In the latter case, it Will no doubt, undergo a thorough scrutiny by the customs on arrival at Sydney on* Tuesday.
