THE V.R.C. MEETING CHATHAM’S EASY WIN SEVENTH IN EIGHT STARTS .MELBOURNE, Nov. 9. Tlie weather was line alter being overcast with some rain tor the third day of the, V.lt.G, spring meeting. The attendance was good. Gay Star, a. stalilomato of Shadow King and Palphar. had an easy win in the first division of the Maiden Plate. The New Zealander, Dazzling Raid, finished well in fourth place. Mamuuiii, who is racing in the same interests as Tuesday’s winner, Quarto, led most of the .wav in the second division of the Maiden Plate, and beat the unlucky Variance, who lias now been in a minor place in his last live starts, and is displaying improved stamina.
. Croden Lad led always in the Byron Moore Stakes, and won handsomely. The slow time is attributed to the strong head wind.
Chatham had an effortless task to record his third successive victory in the -Linlithgow Stakes. He lias now registered seven wins in his last eight starts. His rider, Pike, wqn the Linlithgow stakes previously on Beverage 28 years ago, and also on Gothic and Phar Lap. Sectional times for the Linlithgow Stakes were: First two furlongs, 25.1 sec.; last four, 491.
Banilo, who was fifth early, finished well in the Carnival Handicap. Mr. Jamieson’s Miramond suffered interference, making a good run in the straight.
Golden Hair was fourth early, but led into the straight to score a comfortable win in the Oaks. Slu? lias had three starts and three wins in Victoria.
Ruacli, racing in the same interests as the unlucky Variance, compensated his connections with a sterling win in the Veteran Stakes. Regal Sou and Ruling Light- finished well. J. Pike was suspended for two months for alleged careless riding of Sunclad in the Byron Moore Stakes. Oak Stakes. —Golden Hair (T. AVebster), 1; Hap (A. Reed), 2; Helcnsbroolc (E. Baxter), 3. Ten started. Won by one and a-quarter lengths and half a head. Blue Shot was fourth. Time, 2.35. J-. A’etcrain Stakes.-—Ruacli, 5.9 (AV. Cook), .1; Regal Son, 8.4, 2; Ruling Light. 7.3, 3. Won by two lengths and half a length. Ehnaros was foil rtli. ’Time, 2.35-}. Maiden Plate, first division. —Gav Star, 8.0 (O’Sullivan), 1: Savate, 8.4. 2: Mis Wiltshire, 8.4, 3. Nine started. Won by three and a-lialf lengths and three lengths. Dazzling Raid was fourth. Time, 1.4 11. Maiden Plate,, second division Mananna, 7.9 (11. Badger), 1; V ariance, 7.9, 2: Dusky Queen, 3. Nine started. AVon by one and a-lialf lengths and two and a-half lengths. Drachma, was fourth. Time, 1.42-j.

Linlithgow Stakes. —Chatham. 9)8 (J. Pike), 1; Waltzing Lily. 9.2 2; Palphar, 8.3. 3. Four started. Won by two and a-half lengths and a long neck. Lclite was fourth. Time, 1.39. Carnival Haindicapj —-Daniito,. 7.13 (F. Dempsey), 1; Saurian, 6.12. 2; Count Ito, 8.0, 3. Won by half a length and one and a-miartcr lengths. Snow Acre was fourth. Time, 2.84. Seven started. .
