YOUNG MAN’S SUICIDE
TRAGIC LOVE AFFAIR
ATTENTIONS UNWELCOME (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. , A verdict of suicide was returned at the inquest concerning the death of Hugh J Lancelot Wedde, 22, who Was found dead in the strong-room o! Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company’s office on Tuesday. Evidence was given that Wedde was on the verge of a nervous breakdown at the end of last year; and was given special leave, but it was noticeable occasionally that he had not quite recovered. Lois Isabel Marple, the firm’s typist, gave evidence that Wedde was worried over his health and thought he might have a tubercular affection in the foot, which had been injured in an accident some years ago. wedde paid her attentions for some time, but she told him that they were unwelcome. On Tuesday, when the rest of the staff were at lunch, he asked her to reconsider the matter, but she declined. He remarked: “This is' the end,” or something like that. Witness was upset and left the office for a few minutes. On returning she discovered the body in the strong room. The evidence showed that Wedde shot himself through the left breast with a pea riflb bullet. The coroner expressed sympathy with Miss Marple and the deceased’s relatives.
