Although the question of safeguarding the Whirokino section of the WelliugtonAucklund main highway has been under discussion for several years, there hafc been a lack of co-operation on the part of the controlling body, the Manawatu County Council, and the other local bodies concerned. At a round-table conference held in Fo.vton, however, unanimity of purpose was reached. The conference resolved to form a deputation comprising automobile associations, chambers of commerce and local bodies interested, to wait on the Government with a view to having the work of deviating or raising the Whirokino section of the highway declared a national undertaking and carried out on similar lines to works put in hand at the Manawatu Gorge, Paekakariki Hill, and in the Makara County.
