SUIT OVER EXPENDITURE LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21. Charlie Chaplin to-day initiated a legal battle against his former wife, Lita Grey. He has filed a statement declaring that the expenditure of £6793 on his sons—of whom their mother has the custody—from September 1931 to July 1933 is excessive. The budget for the two hoys to he submitted to the Los Angeles court shows that they required £65 each monthly for board and nurses, £137 for police protection at home and abroad, and £lO a month for a French teacher. Fifteen shilliugs was spent on each haircut for them, and £4 a month each for clothing. A trip to Europe which they made cost £7OO each, and the same sum went in lawyers' fees. Sydney Chaplin’s upkeep for 22 months is listed at a total of £3431, and £3362 was spent on Charles junior. It cost £1 10s to remove a wart from Charles’ hand.
