LAND SETTLEMENT

AREAS NEAR TE AWAMUTU Cabinet has definitely approved the purchase of further areas of land in the neighborhood of To Awamutu under the. closer settlement plan. The purchases will include 392 acres, being part of Mr. W, Cr. Park’s “Prinehakua” property at Puahuo, eight miles from To Awamutu, and 134 acres of Mr. H. M. Lethbridge's “Hiwihau” property at Wairaka, Kornkonui, 16 miles from Te Awamutu. The Cabinet has also authorised the development of section 14 and 15, block I, Wharepape survey district, at Wharepuhunga. The Puahue area will be cut up into seven sections, and the Korakouui property into two farms. There will be three farms in the Wharepuhunga property. All the land is partly improved, near good farming country, and close to metalled roads. It is expected that shortly the Government will acquire further areas, negotiations for which have been proceeding for several months.
