THIS MONTH’S TOURNEY FRANKLIN TO MEET HAWES Mr. A. S. Parker presided at- a meeting of the committee of the Gisborno Boxing Association, last evening. A letter was received from the Now Zealand Boxing Council reporting on the good conduct and the splendid impression created by Gisborne’s representative, W. McKay, on the recent trip to Australia. Confirmation of his acceptance of a title bout with Joe Franklin on November 24, was received from the Dominion champion, Percy Hawes. In connection with the staging of this contest, the secretary reported having circularised members in regard to the suspension of privileges (except that of priority hooking) for this tournament, and had received a most favorable response. It was decided for this tournament only, that members pay 5s for ringside seats. Owing *to the importance of the contest, and the extra expense of staging it, it was decided to cancel the free list for this tournament. The match committee was instructed to arrange for four amateur preliminaries, and one reserve bout. In this connection an application was received from I). Stirling, of Christchurch, for a six-round bout against a local welter or middle-weight. A letter was received from the Waikohu association with reference to amateur boxers failing to fulfill engagements. It was decided to inform the Waikohu association that Gisborne had already made a rule that in future open tournaments all entries must he accompanied by a deposit of ss, which will he forfeited if a boxer does not put in an appearance. Arrangements for an amateur tournament to be held during the visit of IT.M.S. Diomede will he discussed at the next meeting of the association.
