n.z. association CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand championship rowing regatta has been allocated to the Marlborough association, to be rowed at i’ictou on February 17. At the annual meeting oi the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association last night applications were received from the Otago, Marlborough, and Wellington associations lor the interprovincial championship eighths, and these, on a- vote being taken, were allocated to Wellington, the date being fixed for Easter -Saturday. It was decided to circularise local associations asking vvliether, in the event of a visit of Now South Wales oarsmen, they could nominate a specified amount, and, if the. replies were favorable, to proceed with the invitation. The election of officers resulted :—President, Mr. W. J. Girling (Marlborough); .vice-presidents, Messrs. A. C. Norden (Auckland) and F. W. Mothes (Wellington) ; council, Messrs. R. G. Duncan, T. M. Hinkley, D. R. Menzies (Wellington), G. Lauchlan (Wanganui), 11. Patou (Otago), A. Ross (East Coast), M. A. Turner (Canterbury), secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. D. Bavfield; auditor. Mr. W. Wheeler. G.R.C. FIRST FOURS SECOND ROUND COMPLETE The. second round of the Gisborno Rowing Club’s First Trial Fours series was completed last, evening. Mujcli speculation has been roused in connection with this series, by the training performances of various crews, and there have been an unusual number of surprises. A hard tussle was witnessed when D. Alexander (sir.), P. Gavin, D. Watt, and D. Gavin met G. J. Jounc (str.), t f. Zachariah, W. Collett, and O. MeLci'iiqh in the first race, which went to tile former by barely lft, Alexander gained slightly at the start, but was soon overtaken and Jcunc led to Morrison’s bend. At this stage Alexander had the advantage of deeper water and gradually reduced the lead. From then on the result of the race was doubtful, but Alexander seemed to have a little more in resorvo than his opponent, and nosed his way ahead to win by a narrow margin. : Tho next raco resulted in favor of S, Bruco (str,), D. G. Papp'rill, R. Kinder, and J. Boag, w r ho met R. Mahon (str.), G. Slade, L. Jones, and R. Hunt. At the word “row” Bruce secured the advantage, whieh lie held throughout the race to win by two lengths. Mahon made several attempts to lessen the gap, but seemed to be uhablo to get a run on his boat. The semi-finals will be rowed this evening between the four remaining crews. The draw is as follows:—-S. Bruce v. Iv. Bell; K. Nicoll v. D. Alexander. POVERTY BAY CLUB , FINE SECOND-ROUND RACE Racing .in the,First Trial Fours series of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club, yesterday morning, W. McLeod, (sir.), J. ,Qfeen,. E, Gregg, au.4 W.,,Higgs beat J, Barrett (sir.), C. Smythe, 1. Stevens, and A. Jukes. McLeod gained slightly at, tliq start, and \yas- leading by half a length at the, footbridge'. Barrett pulled up near Sheehan street, but from Derby street to the finish McLeod went a,way again, to win by a length and a half. The lasi face of the first-round, rowed last evening, was between 0- O’Neill (str.), W. Michie, H. Duckworth, and IL Fenn, and G. Ardern (str.),. I, iStoV’ens, G. SUverwood, and A. Gardner. The crews remained- oh even tertris until after passing under the footbridge. From then on Ardern gained gradually, a length of clear water showing between the boats at. Derby street) .
