Dr. 11. L. Gould, assistant medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, returned by the Port Huon from a visit to England. In response to a call from Avondale, Auckland, the Rev*. 11. G. Goring is to leave Wanganui at the end of the year. He will commence his duties at Avondale on February 1, 1934. Mrs. ,T. A. Lyons, wife of the Prime Minister of Australia, gave birth to a daughter at Burnie, Tasmania, last week. Mr. and Mrs Lyons have now a family of live sons and six daughters. Messrs. J. P. Kenny and G. W. B. Lowson, secretary and engineer respectively to the Napier Harbor Board, are paying a visit to Gisborne with a view to inspecting items of plant which the Gisb.orno board has for disposal. The Napier board recently adopted a comprehensive harbor improvement scheme, and the dredgo Korua has been tlio subject of discussion between representatives of the two boards. Mr, D. D. Tait, who has been chief manager in Victoria since August, 1931, has been appointed chief inspector of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, Limited, and will assume duties at the head office in Sydney at an early date. Mr. Tait joined the bank in 1897. and after' 215 years’ service in city and country branches joined the inspectors’ staff in 1922. Subsequently he was appointed an inspector, and has at various times been associated with the supervision of the bank’s business in all the Australian States. Mr. A. S. Osborne has been appointed assistant to the general manager, and Mr. C. E. Haigh, an inspector, lias been transferred from Sydney to succeed Mr. Tait as chief manager in Victoria.
