Melbourne Cup.—Rogilla, Gaine Carrington, Shadow King, Flail, Pretzel, Topical, Oro, Peter Jackson, Regal Son, Metallurgy, Itiach, Picatus, Hall Mark, Gaterlna, Greenhorn, Blitzen, Nora, Break Up, Trivento, Palphar, Mimieker, James Aitelv, Petau. The following scratchings- are announced for the Derby: Burlesque, Gothic, Gem, Centreline, Monarch. The Cup acceptors Trivento and James Aiteh are both maidens. S. Smith, lessee of Waltzing Lily, has issued a challenge of £IOOO to raco that mare against Gaine Carrington, Kuvcrna, Pretzel, Topical or Oro over any distance from six to 12 furlongs. Smith holds the . opinion that Waltziqg Lily was unlucky in the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate. RACING IN AMERICA TEA TRADER ENGAGED SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 3,0, Tea Trailer , and Quicjtaway share the top weight, 8.9, in the Inaugural Handicap, the opening day feature at the fall meeting on the Tanforan track on Wednesday. Eleven sprinters were named for the five and a-half furlongs race. Tea Trader will be a slight favorite, with strongest competition expected from Sun Dot 8.3,' Quickaway and Teraliee 8.2, and Onrush 7.11. RECORD TOTE RETURN . r LONDON, Oct, 21. A record British totalisator return for a. single backer was established at Ned bury races yesterday, when a punter put 10s on a .double, Millrock and Knight of Monaster.
