GALE AND AWAHOU DISPUTE AT LYTTELTON (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. As a result of a dispute over the employment of a permanent man, instead of. a casual, on the work of cheeking trucks, t Ik* steamer Gale, which was to have sailed at noon for northern ports, and tin* Avvaliou, to have sailed this afternoon for east coast ports, are idle at Lyttelton.
The waterside workers engaged left for their Ironies after protesting against the Railway Department's action.
