CARGO OF CONVICTS
FRANCE’S HELL SHIP G7O FOR DEVIL’S ISLAND (Received Oct, 2, 11- a.m.) PARIS, Oct. 1. A La Rochelle message states that France's hell ship, Le Mar.tinie.re> sailed to-night with a load of CTO caged convict® bound for Devil’s Island. It was rumored that the convicts intended to- mutiny prior to their embarkment, so that they were relieved of their shoes and made to walk in clogs to the quayside, escorted by troops with fixed bayonets. One murderer, a man name Boyer, had been literally within minutes of death. The morning that he was due to be guillotined news came of the President. M. Donm-cr's, assassination. The new President could not consider the petition for a commutation of the sentence without a new trial and Boyer was given the benefit of the doubt and sent to Guiana.
