The Observer advocates at least one year’s postponement of cricket tests, and says the memories, of the dead set against D. R. Jardine and his team mates will be too vivid' next summer for the Australians to have the unclouded welcome which everyone would wish them, ito enjoy. While the contents of the Australian Board of Control’s cable message are still not disclosed by the M.C.C., the Daily Herald publishes a Sydney message saving that it demands an unqualified guarantee that there shall he no body-line bowling, otherwise the arrangements for the Australian tour Will he cancelled.
The correspondent states that'the decision followed one of the must heated discussions in the history . of_ Australian cricket. . ........ STATEMENT DENIED NO DEM ANDS-.MADE SYDNEY, Oct. 1. Mr. R. Oxlade, chairman of the Board of Control, flatly denies the Daily Herald report. He said the board haJ not made any demands on the M.C.C., nor was there a. heated discussion oil bodyline bowling at the board’s meeting. Mr. Oxlade added: ‘‘The contents ot our cable message to the Marylebone Cricket Club will not be made known until they deal with it.”
