RUATORIA W.I.

MONTHLY MEETING £ (Herald Correspondent.) Forty-eight members of the RuatoTia Women’s Institute attended the institute’s monthly meeting, which was held under beautiful weather conditions last Thursday afternoon. By the invitation of Mrs. H. E. Williams, the meeting was held at Ngamoe. The proceedings opened with the institute song and the creed, following which the roll call, ‘‘Gardening Hints,” was well responded to, “how to get rid of slugs” being a popular hint. The motto for the month was “Do not stain to-day’s blue skies with to-morrow’s clouds.” Animal tearing in paper was an amusing competition, and many curiously shaped quadrupeds were called hv the name of pig. The pigs tom by Misses O’Connor and Stewart were judged the best. The competition for the best cotton garment for 2s 6d re suited as follows Mrs. Thornton, 1: Mrs Ryan, 2; Mrs. Littlejohn, 3. The fruit cake competition resulted :—Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Littlejohn, equal, 1; Mrs. Thornton, 3. A dainty afternoon tea was served on the verandah by the hostesses, Mesdames H. E. Williams, Penfold, Reedy, and Thornton. Three cheers were given to Mrs. Williams for her hospTality, and a vote of thanks was passed to the other hostesses, a most enjoyable meet)ng being brought to a close by the singng c-f the National Anthem.
