LOSS TO BRITAIN
SIR G. THOMSON DEAD GOVERNOR OF CEYLON (British Official Wireless.) Rec. noon. RUGBY, Sept. 29. Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister has received a telegram informing him that .Sir Graeme Thomson, Governor of Ceylon, who was on liis way to England, died at Aden on Thursday. The King sent a message of sympathy to Lady Thomson iri his own and the Queen’s name. Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, in a message. of condolence, says Lady Thomson's bereavement is shared by His Majesty’s Government and the country, which has lotst a tried and experienced public servant. The news was received with universal regret in Ceylon. During the war, Sir Graeme Thomson, as Director of Transports, displayed remarkable powers of organisation, which were invaluable to the British forces. In 1017 ho was ap - pointed to the additional post of Director of Shipping. Before being appointed Governor of Ceylon in 1931, Sir Graeme served as Governor of Nigeria and British Guiana. He was 58 years old.
