TEMPORARY LICENSES

POLICY STATEMENT WANTED A suggestion was made by Mr. \Y. 11.I 1 . Rollings, counsel for the Wairarapu master carriers, at a sitting of the No. 6 Transport Licensing Authority at Mastorton, that the authority might make some statement regarding the policy of issuing temporary licenses. Mr. Bollings said that for £3 5s a carrier could obtain a temporary license for a year. Temporary licenses were being used lo evade the ordinary licenses granted by the authority, lie submitted that the authority had [lower under the Act to deal with the position. The chairman, Mr. G. A. Troup, said that it was a matter that could he raised with the Transport Department. The authority fully appreciated the position, and was fully aware of the difficulties. Possible - some amendment to the Act might be required to right the matter.
